Drug Uses
Used for treating infections caused by bacteria, Cipro is also given for preventing or slowing down anthrax.
How Taken
Cipro
can be taken with or without food. When taking Cipro, you have to drink
more fluids. If you are taking any medicine or pill that contains
aluminum, magnesium, iron, zinc and calcium; sucralfate didanosine,
bismuth subsalicylate, better take them after six hours before or two
hours after taking the drug. For better results, you have to complete
the full course.
Missed Dose
Better do not take double
dosage. If missed a dosage, take it when you remember it. And if it is
nearly time for the next dosage, skip the missed one.
More Information
Cipro
is known to cause dizziness, drowsiness and blurred vision. These can
worsen if the drug is mixed withy alcohol and other medications. Only
drive if you feel comfortable after taking Cipro. If you find that the
symptoms have not improved, better consult the doctor. Always take the
right dosage as prescribed, not less and not more.
Storage
Store Cipro at 59 – 86 °F (15 – 30 °C).
Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the
bathroom. Keep Cipro out of the reach of children.
Warnings/Precautions
Always tell your physician about all your
medical conditions. Tell him if you are allergic to certain medicines,
food and other things.
You have to tell him if you are having
Alzheimer’s, diarrhea, stomach infection, kidney and liver problems,
seizures, joint problems and inflammation of tendons. If you are
pregnant or about to become pregnant, better discuss all medical issues
with your doctor so that he can give the right advice. Well, as Cipro
is found in breast milk, it is not good to breast–feed while taking the
drug.
Some medicines are known to interact with Cipro. Well, it is
better to tell your physician about the current medications that you
are taking.
It is also better not to take Cipro if you have got
oral typhoid vaccination or if you are on cisapride or tizanidine
medicines.
Do not take Cipro with milk and milk products. It has
been noted that repeated use of the drug can lead to second infection.
If you see signs of second infection, tell the doctor. You should also
avoid tea, coffee, cocoa, cola and chocolate. Better do not exercise if
you feel pain in the tendon. The drug is also known to affect blood
sugar and so it is better to tell the doctor if you are diabetic so
that he can adjust the dosage of the diabetes medicine.
You should also avoid sun, tanning booths and sunbaths, as Cipro is sensitive to the sun.
Cipro can only work only against bacteria and not against viral infections.
