Atarax

ataraxAtarax is a medicine prescribed for the treatment of anxiety and itching due to certain allergic conditions like hives and contact dermatitis.

An antihistamine, Atarax acts on the brain cells that cause anxiety and thus lowering its impact. It is an oral drug, which can be taken with food or in empty stomach. If you feel stomach upset, it is better to take Atarax with food. You should take care not to miss a dosage. Well, if a dosage is missed, take it as soon as you remember it. However, skip the missed one if it is almost time for your regular dosage. Never mix two doses.

Before the drug is prescribed, it is better to inform the doctor about all your health conditions and also about all your allergies. The drug should not be taken if you are using sodium oxybate. Tell your doctor if you have glaucoma, asthma, urinating difficulties, urinary/intestinal blockage, any blood disease or a prostate disease.

As like other drugs, Atarax interacts with other medicines. So it is better to tell your doctor about all the prescription and non-prescription drugs that you are taking.

Alcohol should be avoided when taking Atarax as it can cause many complications like drowsiness.
The doctors do not prescribe Atarax during the first three months of pregnancy. Though it is not known if the drug is passed into breast milk, mothers should have to discuss about all the risks of taking the drug before going for breast feeding.
