Diflucan
An anti-fungal medicine, Diflucan is used for treating fungal infections of the mouth, throat, lungs, oesophagus, bladder and genital areas. The doctors also prescribe the drug for preventing fungal infection in patients who had undergone a bone marrow transplant and cancer treatment.
Coming in the class of synthetic triazole, the drug is also effective against vaginal and esophageal candidiasis, Cryptococcal and Oropharyngeal meningitis. Diflucan contains the active ingredient fluconazole and it is this ingredient that acts on the fungus and destroys it.
Diflucan can be taken with food or in empty stomach. The prescribed dosage is only once a day and if needed your doctor may increase the dosage. The dosage normally depends on your health. Once your doctor prescribes Diflucan, you should have to complete the entire length of the medication. Just continue to take the medication till your doctor has prescribed it. Well, if you stop the drug after feeling better, then you are at a higher risk. If a course is not completed, there are chances for the fungal infection to relapse.
Well, coming to the dosage, always take the drug at the same time every day for better results. In case you miss a dose, take it before the next dosage. But if you do not remember to take it till your next dosage, skip the missed one and continue with your regular medicine. Never mix two doses.
Once you know that your doctor is going to prescribe Diflucan for your infection, it is better to inform him about all your medication conditions so that he could take a wise decision on the medication. You should have to discuss with your physician if you have any allergies to any particular substance, food and medicine. The doctor should also know if you have any health problems and diseases. Inform him if you have any liver, kidney and heart problems.
Diflucan comes only with mild side effects and some of lesser-known side effects are headache, dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach upset. These side effects go away after some days. But if the symptoms persist, contact your doctor immediately. Diflucan also comes with less allergic reactions like rashes, itching, trouble breathing and swelling.
The drug rarely causes serious liver disease. But if you experience severe stomach or abdominal pain, dark urine, yellowing eyes or skin, tiredness and vomiting, you should have to call your doctor.
Though it is not yet known if the drug effects birth control drugs, it is better to use some other drug control methods if you do not want to get pregnant soon.
Diflucan can cause dizziness and this can increase if mixed with alcohol and other medicines. Once you have taken Diflucan, better do not drive or perform any hard task unless you know how the drug reacts in your body.
The drug should only be used by those for whom it has been prescribed; do not share the drug with others. The drug should be stored at room temperature, away from light and moisture.
