Neurontin

neurontinNeurontin is an effective drug for treating seizures linked with epilepsy for adults and also for children who are at least 12 years of age. It is also used against nerve pain associated with postherpetic neuralgia and also against nerve pains caused by herpes zoster.

An anti-epileptic medication, Neurontin works by affecting the chemicals and nerves that are involved in the cause of seizures.

The drug is not prescribed for every one. Well, you have to discuss with your doctor about all your medical history and if you have kidney, liver and heart diseases before he prescribes the drug. Neurontin is also not good for pregnant women and also who are about to become pregnant and for breast-feeding mothers. The drug is rated FDA pregnancy category C, which means it can be harmful to the foetus. As the drug is found in the breast milk, it is better to discuss with the doctor the complications of using the drug while breast-feeding.

The drug is also known to interact with some medications and so you have to tell your doctor if you are under any other medication.

One important thing that has to be kept in kind is that the drug should not be stopped suddenly. Even if you feel relived from the seizures, you have to stop taking the drug only after taking your doctor
